Let’s start September with a dessert, a good idea for breakfast or for an healthy and sweet snack: apple strudel.
September, such a beautiful month. It’s the tail of the summer, days are still warm and nice and it’s also the beginning of the school after the summer break. A month full of energy! Don’t ask me why but from a food point of view I connect September with apples. Even if you can find them in season almost all year around, for me apples are related to September 🙂
That’s why I’ve chosen the Apple Strudel for today’s recipe. The strudel (it should be written with the double points on the “u”) is a traditional Austrian dessert, but it is very common in Northern East Italy. It’s a layered and rolled pastry dessert with a fruit filling, usually apples and raisins.
There are a lot of strudel recipes both for the homemade pastry and for the filling mix. Today I’m sharing with you my version: a nice shortcut for the pastry (good quality puff pastry from the grocery store) and a good mix of apples, strawberry jam, raisins and nuts for the mix.
The recipe is not only easy but very fast to prepare. You just place the mix in the center of the puff pastry sheet and roll it! Just remember to create sum cuts on the top to let the puff pastry “breathe” while it is cooking.
At home we simply love this recipe, it’s sweet, but not too sweet. The puff pastry layers melt in your mouth and the apple is the queen of the filling! Enjoy!!!
See you next Thursday with another recipe!!!
ciao!
