Smoothies are such a fun and smart way to offer fruit and veggies to your picky eater without complaints. This green smoothie is loaded with ingredients high in Iron and Vitamin C to help your baby’s growth and brain development. Doesn’t have any added sugar, I simply used the natural sugar in fruit to sweeten it.
What really got my kids into smoothies was the possibility of using the blender 🙂
For them the blender is such a fun, magic and awesome thing.
When they were little I used to fill the blender with the smoothie ingredients, close and sit them on the countertop next to it so that they could press “The Button” and see the magic happen. Now that they are a bit older they carefully fill the blender and do the rest. With my older one we even do the “mystery smoothie” game where I do everything and simply serve him the smoothie and he has to guess what’s inside. Or we also do the “you pick two, I pick two” smoothie game. I decide two ingredients (and he knows there is always a green inside) and he picks two (and I know he always picks chocolate) and we cannot complain about the other person choices. It works! it’s a fun moment with the kids and an healthy snack idea.
For this smoothie I used frozen banana for a creamy texture, kale to sneak in some greens, kiwi and mango to give an acidic twist and, to naturally sweeten everything, in addition to the banana I added green grapes, coconut water and molasses. Molasses is not only a lovely sweetener for babies (starting from 6 months), but is an excellent iron source. That being said, molasses flavor is intense, reminds me caramel, so I would only add small amounts to baby food. For the whole smoothie I used 1 tsp.
This smoothie is appropriate for babies starting from 6 months….but sincerely doesn’t have an age limit…it’s yummy and healthy for toddlers, older kids and adults!!!
Also…you can serve it cold or…in the summer…make green popsicles!!!
Well, being a smoothie you simply need to throw all the ingredients in a blender and let it work 😉
- 2 leaves kale (no stem)
- 1 kiwi, ripen
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/4 cup mango
- 8 green grapes
- 3/4 cup coconut water
- 1 tsp molasses
-
Add everything in a blender and mix up until smooth and creamy
