Cooking fish for a kid is not always so easy…but if you transform the fish in a pasta sauce everything is easier 🙂
This recipe is designed for little palates (12/18 months toddlers), but it can be easily given to babies 9/12 months just not adding any salt and making the sauce into a nice puree’ with an immersion blender. Or it can be a very healthy family meal switching to a bigger size of pasta (any short shape will work) and seasoning the sauce with salt and pepper and the pasta water with some salt; you can also add some basil to the sauce too.
I forgot to mention: the recipe is very fast to prepare. The sauce will be done while the pasta will cook! In 30 min your meal will be ready.
Where to start? from the veggies. Wash and chop them in very small cubes.
Do the same thing with the tuna
In a medium pan place the veggies and few tablespoons of water. No oil for the baby/toddler version. If you are cooking for the family you can use few tablespoons of extra virgin oil of olive. Cook the veggies for 3 minutes at medium heat.
Than add the remaining water and keep cooking at low heat for 8 min. If you are cooking for the family you can switch the water with some vegetable broth.
It’s time to add the tuna and cook for few more minutes. The tuna cooks in no time and you will see that it will change color.
Meanwhile prepare the baby pasta. I used a tiny wheel shape baby pasta. The only difference between a baby pasta (“pastina” in Italian) and an adult one is the size. The baby pasta is very very small…baby size. It comes in a nice variety of shapes like the regular size pasta.
In a small pan place some water and let it boil. When the water is boiling add the baby pasta and follow the cooking time on the packaging. If you are not cooking for babies you can add a pinch of salt to the boiling water.
When the pasta is ready, drain it and mix the pasta with the sauce. Few drops of extra virgin oil of olive on top and our tuna
Enjoy!!
